Page Repeater

The Page Repeater enables users to render a given page multiple times, filtering a specified visual by a different slice each time. The page repeater produces a single publication, with only the specified pages being repeated. This is unlike Slicers, which produce multiple publications, each filtered by a different slice. While publications are exported as static documents, this does not stop publication builders from producing reports that provide the context and depth available in dynamic presentations.

Exercise: Add a Page Repeater

STEP 1

Scroll to the page containing the visualizations that you want to apply the filter to, and click Page Repeater (red) from the Page ribbon (green).

STEP 2

In the dialog, click Add New Slicer.

Note: the number next the Page Repeater dialog header indicates which publication page the slicer will be applied to.

STEP 3

Select the member hierarchy or elements that should comprise the slicer. To learn more about the New Slicer panel, click here.

STEP 4

Select which visualizations to apply the slicer to.

STEP 5

Click add new slicer to add another slicer, or close the dialog and save and schedule the publication as usual.

Your publication will be produced with an individual page for each slicer option.

Example: Repeat per Product Category

In this example, the page repeater was applied to the first publication page. This page contains a trellised pie chart showing Sales by Gender and Promotion. The slicer hierarchy was Product Category, which contained four elements (Accessories, Bikes, Clothing, and Components).

If you publish this, the output publication will contain four pages, each of which will be a copy of the first page but filtered by a different Product Category.

Things to note:

  • The Pages panel, to the right of the canvas, shows an icon indicating that this page includes a Page Repeater (red highlight).
  • The selection in the Page Repeater panel (red arrow) shows that the visual is sliced by the Product Category hierarchy. Tip: If you only want to select a subset of the slicer elements, you can right-click the slicer name (blue arrow) to view Slicer Settings and edit the elements list.

Excel with Page Repeaters

Where the publication is published to Excel, each of the repeated pages is created as a worksheet in the tabbed Excel Workbook:

The name of each tab is constructed as follows <panel>-<element>-<number>, where:

  • <panel> - This is the panel title / visual name. Note that you can customize this name in the Formatting panel (select Panel Settings > Title).
  • <element> - This is the name of the Element that the slice represents. In the preceding example, this will be Accessories, then Bikes, and so on.
  • <number> - Where the name created from the <panel> and <element> values duplicates another tab name, the duplicate is suffixed -1, the third -2, and so on.

Note: Because tab names are limited to 31 characters in Excel, the <panel> and the <element> names (above) may be truncated using an ellipsis.
